Since it is Christmas, I thought I'd post a simple , but very catchy Gospel tune done by my favorite banjo player, Ralph Stanley. It's called COME ON LITTLE CHILDREN,and this is the opening break , which is the only banjo break to the song. I especially like the syncopation of measure 4, pure Stanley. This is an easy tune to learn for the newbies, and a great introduction to Stanley style playing. Ralph almost always tries to pattern his breaks to the way the singer sings it, and in this case , he nails it.
The lead singer is the late great Roy Lee Centers, who many say is the best lead singer Ralph has had since Carter died.No argument from me here.In the chorus you can hear the late great Keith Whitley singing the "come on" .I believe he does it twice, the first and last "come on" before the line "little children"
