Tab X's and slides to nothing

If anyone has "Earl Scruggs and the 5 String Banjo" book, in the Dear Old Dixie tablature you will find

------14--------------------14--------------------------x\-------
-----------------------12-----------12---------------------------
---------------13---------------------------------13\------------
14-----------------------------------------------------------------

I assume 13\ means you slide off the string and x\ means you slide a muted string is that right? Or do you slide to the note in the next measure? the slash does not continue onto the next measure.

I hope this is making some sense lol, because it is a bit confusing, if you have the book, you will see what im talkin about.
