Have been trying for a long time to figure out one of Bill Emerson's signature licks. Have heard him use it in many songs. It starts at 1:20 in the attached link in the tune "Grapes on the Vine" with Tony Rice. It is two measures in length on a G chord I believe. It is a descending walk down that sounds a bit melodic in style.

He uses this same lick in "Don't think twice" with Tony Rice and "Bill Bailey" with the Country Gentlemen.

It is a very useful phrase that could be dropped into a lot of tunes. I just have not been able to crack this one.
