Chinese and Japanese Pentatonic Scales

The Chinese and/or the Japanese cultures did not invent the Pentatonic scales. Both cultures use/d this 5 note scale pattern in their music as do/did many others, including our culture. The Pentatonic scales existed long before Asian or many other cultures began using them in their Folk or Classical Music.

So, the Pentatonic scale should not necessarily  be attributed to Asian cultures. In other words you cannot say "this is the Chinese Pentatonic scale". According to most respected music history theory books, it is much more likely that the Ancient Greek civilization invented this alteration of the 7 note major or minor scale.

Once again, Wikipedia is not the place to get accurate information about the 6 forms of the Pentatonic scales...Jack Baker
