Cuckoo's Nest

Cuckoo’s Nest is an excellent tune for the banjo, and I have posted my tablature of it in the key of D played in open G tuning. A key question is whether it’s easier to work out a version high up the neck or a lower version down the neck. As you will see from the tablature, I opted for the lower version. To produce my tab I relied on several resources. For the A part I drew a lot from the wonderful tab posted in the Archive by Hans Holzherr (Howsy-Bee). For the B part I poached some ideas I mean I carefully researched and took inspiration from Butch Robins’s fine recording of the tune. Butch plays it faster than I would have thought humanly possible, and I don’t advise playing it at warp speed unless you have medical experts in attendance. However, Butch plays it from G position with the capo at the 7th fret, a configuration I chose not to employ because it loses the growly sound of the lower tones of the banjo. The B part also greatly benefited from the excellent tab posted some time ago by my friend Jack Baker, who is one of the most valuable and prolific contributors of tablature on BHO. Jack edited the tab posted earlier by Jim Crowley.
