First post! The Deputy, The Infamous Stringdusters Video

Good day!

I've been searching for an instructional video for The Deputy off of the Infamous Stringdusters' Things That Fly album and have had no such luck whatsoever. I've even put it in my tempo app and slowed it down to  who knows what and am still struggling. A tab would be ok, too.

If anyone can play it slowly (and then slower, I'm a yearling yet), or knows of a helpful video, well, that there'd make me a better person.

Thanks!

tablature making me CRAZY!

I know that serious banjo experts eschew tablature in favor of the Mark I Ear aid. But I do use it for licks, song suggestions, etc. I recently bought a book for playing in the key of D. So far so good. But as I delve into the tablature, I find I am having major problems getting my banjo to put out the sounds I want. Then I noticed, the tablature in the book has the notes in the spaces between the lines, rather than straddling the lines as in look-like-the-strings on the banjo neck. Is there no standard for tablature? If not, why not, and can any of you music makers quite coloring between the lines. Aaarrrrgh!

I've got some novice fingers, and equally novice ears, but it sounds to me like an open C tuning.  Could someone provide chord shapes?

Not only new to the instrument, but to the forum as well - cheers!

Angeline the Baker

Hello all, I'm new to the banjo and have just started attending a local old time session.  The banjos at the session tune to ADADE and play Angeline the Baker in D as one of the slower tunes early in the evening for beginners like me. The problem is I've got myself into a bit of a pickle trying to find suitable tab for the tune in the correct key/fingering. Can anyone please help?

Thanks in advance!

I am getting pretty good at reading a song title and then guessing whether it is clawhammer or Scruggs style. For example, when I saw Mr.Isaac's Maggot I knew right away.

Another great tab from the inimitable Jack Baker. Thanks Jack. Love the way you pick up on the subtleties like those tied silent notes where Earl hesitates and turns an 8th note into a quarter note. So tasteful. Well done once again. Stay well up there in the Arctic Circle (enlarged).

Soldiers Joy tab- bluegrass

Does anyone know where I might find the tab  for a good, intermediate version of Soldiers Joy bluegrass style in G.  I've checked everything here and nothing quite does the trick.  Lots of drop c versions, a couple simple (skimpy) versions, banjo ben's more advanced version, lots of clawhammer. I just love the tune and realize its more of a fiddle tune geared to clawhammer players, but it shouldn't have to be IMHO.

Also, if you have an mp3 of you playing it or someone else maybe you could post the link.  Perhaps I can slow it down with the amazing slowdowner and figure it out myself.  Thanks again!
