Old Corn Liquor / Old Corn Likker Tab

Hi all,

I am a bit of  a banjo neophyte, but I have been playing clawhammer style hard for 4 months and have 6 tunes I can play reasonably well. I have been taking lessons and I am trying to learn songs that I know and like. I came across Carolina Chocolate Drops 'Old Corn Likker' which I really like, but haven't been able to find a tab of this tune. They play it on a minstrel banjo, but I am assuming that it also transfers to a standard 5 string. Here is Rhianon Giddens playing with Dom Flemings on bones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pemofre-eBk

I know Bob Carlin has a version too.

And i saw there was a tab out there in a previous discussion - http://www.banjohangout.org/archive/236266 - I would appreciate a copy or it to be posted on the tab archive.

Cheers

Jerusalem Ridge - Kenny Baker trans. for banjo + actual backup

A complete transcript of Kenny Baker's fiddle part for 5string banjo (single string). Open G tuning for this fiddle part (optional capo 5th fret for original recording in C/Am) if so the total span of the banjo, lowest to the highest frets are used. Also included is the actual banjo backup part with a separate tab. This banjo is tuned down in Em (eBEGB = -3-3-3-4-3) as in the original recording (same option of capo 5th fret rendering Am aEACE). I have included midis and mp3s in Em and also original Am.In memory of Kenneth Clayton Baker (June 26, 1926 – July 8, 2011)

Here are all the files, the recordings play the fiddle part twice thru:      http://www.banjohangout.org/tab/browse.asp?m=detail&v=20127

Doug's Tune Tab

I'm trying to recall Doug's tune, a song I played years ago after having learned it from tab found in the November '77  issue of BNL. So, I found a Xeroxed copy of the tab in my file cabinet, but it's virtually unreadable. Anyone out there have a PDF or JPEG of the whole arrangement that's printable?????

Tabs written in text

Is it just me or is anybody else having trouble discerning where a measure ends when written in text. I have tried to transcribe text tabs into Tef.file and am perplexed. People have submitted tabs written in text and it's hard to tell what the time notation is for a note and also where one measure ends and another begins.

Are there tricks to the trade that I am missing or is there a secrete to cracking the Enigma Code? How do others cope with this problem? Up till now, I've been ignoring these tabs but there are a lot of great songs written only in text. On the mandolin sight, most tabs are written as text files.

What Is A Tab Or A "Mini" Tab?

$

OK - I'm not a Jack Baker. But I have worked out a few breaks and tabs and posted them here. But they are what I would consider "legitimate" tabs. By that I mean it's something that the average picker might enjoy learning and playing. Jam acceptable if you will.

Lately there seems to be a proliferation of tabs that are 3 or 4 measures long, done in text, and while they might be "cute", they aren't really anything that I would consider classifiying as a true tab.

Don't misunderstand me. I don't want this taken the wrong way. Those who submit these kinds of "tabs" have done a little work, figured out how to pick something, and then felt it fell under the classification of tab, and posted it. No harm in doing that, but maybe it should be called a "mini tab" or something that would distinguish it from a substantial break or song.

Not sure how this could be done, but clicking on links to a text tab of a few measures is something that I am sure a certain number of members wouldn't do if they were able to tell ahead of time how abbreviated the tab was.

Any way to break out the tabs to put these "minis" in their own little category??

I'm chasing any & all "CHASE TUNES"- Fox,Deer,Rabbit,& Hound- PLEASE SHARE!

Hey everybody!

This request is for "CHASE TUNES" - Fox Chases, Rabbit Chases, Deer Chases, Hound Chases, Bear Chases, Squirrel Chases - any kind of chase!

If it goes up and down, back around, now a little slower, now a bit quicker - and now you're banging away with reckless abandon, raising pulses and causing feet to stamp, provoking even the calmest of folks into fits of untamed whooping, hooting or/or hollering - or at least, a general loss of breath or composure - then please, share them with me!!

Forgive me if this has already been discussed.  I couldn't find anything by searching the archives. What is the chord progression for this song? I know it is in C and it sounds like just C F and G. The banjo sounds like he may be capoed at 5 and playing in g position but I'm not sure.  A tab for the banjo break would be nice too. Thanks.

For those out there not familiar with the Masters book, here is a list of the tabs by player. Given the fact that these tabs are combined with great reading on each musician, the book is a "must" for any banjo enthusiast's library.
